THIS SUNDAY SERMON: OBEDIENCE! THE TEST OF GODLY LOVE - DELIVERED ON 16TH SUNDAY'S IN TRINITY

WORD OF POWER ON SUNDAY

THEME: OBEDIENCE: THE TEST OF GODLY LOVE
By: Sis Esther Oyinlade

Text:- "And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart..."Deuteronomy 6:5

Theme for the week is focused on the Christian lifestyle that is rooted in God -man relationship. The Christian life is a life of relationship and dependence on God which is based on obedience and love.
Obedience is simply to be obedient, which is willingness to comply with the commands, orders or instructions of those in authority; and in this regard, commands of God as spelt out in the Scriptures.
Obedience is literally foundational to the Christian life. No obedience, no foundation. Unless we are living in obedience to what God says, we have nothing upon which to build our lives, nothing upon which to rest for assurance, and nothing to rely on when we are tested. Jesus said this is the way to be wise! Trust Him, follow Him, obey Him, and you will be building on a Rock.
Prayer Section: Anchored by - Bro Ben Akinwumi

In both the Old and New Testaments, the words translated obey are related to the idea of hearing. Obedience is a positive, active response to listening to the Word of God. Jesus said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” (Luke 11:28).
Jesus said that loving God with all of ourselves is the first and greatest commandment ( Matt.22:37-39,Deut.6:5) this command, combined with the command to love your neighbour.( Lev.18:18) encompasses all the Old Testament law. Our love towards God must be according to our obedience to His word, the Pharisees claimed to love God, but not totally love their neighbor.

Third Sunday Thanksgiving By the Glorious Youth Fellowship...
The only reliable means of measuring our love for God is to examine whether we obey Him. We may dress the part, act the part, talk the part of being a Christian, but none of these things prove that we genuinely love God. Obedience is the only way. (John 14:21, 23–24).
The relationship between love and obedience is easy to see here. If we truly love God, we will seek to know and keep His commands. If we are not keeping His commands, we cannot honestly claim to love Him.
Jesus proved His love for the father by obeying all His instructions, even to death on the cross: Phil.2:8; Gal.3:13 Jesus primary assignment on earth was to carry out the plan and purpose of God for man and completed it. John 19:30

The Church Congregation Enjoying the Service
Brethren, Actions speak louder than words. When we obey God, we prove that we love Him.
Therefore, beloved, Does your life give evidence that you love God?  In what ways.
