Topic: The security of believe
Delivered By: Rev. Peter Oluwatayo

Text "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose". Romans 8:28.

Introduction:

One of the greatest fear of every person in this life is the assurance of security or safety in the face of unknown, for this reason so many people longs for some sense of security but only a few are the souls who seem to found it. The obvious reason for the lack of security is that people seek for it in wrong places or ways.
There are different ways by which people plan to secure their life and properties.
1. Financial prosperity: like money, investment for future
2. The strength of a nation: government, political leaders
3. The progress of Technology: bullet proof cars, gate, cctv etc
4. Families and Friends:
5. Demonic powers : incision, herbalists, goddess, charms etc.

All this for the sake of security, but all these above fails and disappoint and God curse any man that put his trust on man " Jeremiah 17:5. "Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD."
Real security cannot come from us but from God of heaven.

The security is in two types "": The earthly security and eternal security. Some christian always believed that their save ,You may think you are safe now, what about the eternity?
The bible says".Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven" Matthew 7:21.
Moses in the book of Exodus  3 expressed the same fear Of Unknown by anticipated a negative reactions from people he was going to deliver from the hands of the person he murdered his citizen. Because, not only the fear of Pharaoh alone , Moses also contemplated if his own very people will believe and accept him as someone who had an encounter with their God who hate a murderer like him. This made him to asked God, who do i say you are?
When the people ask me. As the representative of God, Moses must be able to disclose God's character to the Jewish people. Of course, God's name. " JEHOVAH". had been known many years ago and was familiar to the patriarchs. But, what Moses asked was, what does your name mean? What kind of God are you? God explained that the name Jehovah is a dynamic name, base on the Hebrew verb "to be" or to become. He is the self-existent one who always was, always is, and always will be, the faithful and dependable God who calls himself "I am" the one who knows the end even before the beginning, so He told Moses exactly what would happen when he returned to Egypt. The elders of Israel would accept Moses as their leader and believe that God was about to deliver them. But the king of Egypt would resist  God's message and suffer the terrible judgments of God. The people of Israel would be delivered from the land and spoiled the Egyptians and thus receive the wages they had not been paying during their years of slavery. This is the kind of security that Moses was going to enjoy as he accepts God's responsibility of serving his people. And the mysterious Deliverance of the people clearly shows how God preserves His children even in the midst of trouble and difficulties waiting for the time of his manifestation for Deliverance. This is the kind of spiritual chain Reaction that the Psalmist describe in Psalm 119:129 following. God's wonderful way of appearance to Moses leads to obedience, Moses obedience to God leads him to understanding of the personality of God, understanding of  God's personality leads Moses to deeper desire, deeper desire lead to love for God, love for God leads to Israel  guidance and freedom, and this is the kind of freedom believers enjoyed in Jesus Christ when we leave by spirit of God and not by the desires of our flesh. It's make the spirit of God and our own spirit to bear us witness before God and in our conscienceness  that we are God's children. 1John 3:1-2.

The Bible teaches that the Christian may know with certainty his standing before God. The scripture says in 1 John 5:13, " these things have l written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life. There are two extreme positions which we must avoid: The first is the teaching which says that assurance is presumption and that we cannot know that we are saved until we have passed the judgement Day. The second is the system of theology which says that one who is once saved can never be lost. The bible presents a balanced view of assurance - and we must differentiate between the promise of assurance and the conditions on which the promise rests.

THE BASIS OF ASSURANCE OF BELIEVES SECURITY

Sin has separated each of us from God. We all are sinners. Our hearts have rebelled against God. Therefore our salvation must be by divine operation and not by our own human attainment. According to Titus 3:5" That we are not saved by our own works of righteousness. God saves us " according to His mercy". But if we have not been saved by our own deeds of righteousness, how can we know that we have been saved?.
But thank be to God for His love towards us who sent His only begotten Son Jesus Christ to come and die for us, that through him we might have eternal life. John 3:16. Through Him believes have assurance of security and through His clear promise of God's word. 1 John 3:1-2
The scriptures in a number of places confirm this thought. John 5:24 says, " He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but passed from death unto life". Romans. 5:1.
Paul the Epistle to Romans 8, is a passage in the New testament that led emphasis on the security of believe, that as for believes in Christ their is no condemnation because the power of Holy spirit has settled the bill and no matter what might come on their ways is all working together for good because their for Christ.  That you are a christian it does not means that challenges would not come but sure safety is certain in as much as we have played our own part God is always available to secure us, because that was the reason Jesus Christ came for the world to save sinner. And is Second coming of Christ wiill be hot for unrighteousness but peaceful for the righteous. 1john 5: 13. This verse answer and confirm, confront us, if we are safe or not.

WHAT ARE THE TEST OF ASSURANCE OF OUR SECURITY ABOUT ETERNAL LIFE?

Is not everyone who professes to be a christian is a saved. There are some tests by which one can tell.
1. The test of obedience: 1 John 2:3. And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.. We can know that we have eternal life because we are keeping His commandments.
2. The test of Loyalty:  1 John 2:15. Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. The passions and pursuits of the worldly mind are altogether contrary to the delights and the activities of the spiritual mind. Your concern about the things of the world matters
3. The test of conduct:  1 John 3:9. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.  The real child of God will do what is right and will keep himself from evil. 1 John 3:9 literally reads, " Whosoever born of God does not keep on practicing sin, for God's seed ( Christ) keeps on abiding in him and cannot keep on practicing sin because he is born of God
4. The test of love:   1 John 3:14. We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.
The christian loves even the worst of sinners, and often weeps over them. But he has a special love for those who are believers in Christ. Any person who habitually dislikes and misunderstands his fellow christian is evidently not walking in the light, and cannot have assurance of salvation. But the Christian who has a genuine love for his brethren has evidence within that he has passed from death unto life.

NOTE: The tests of obedience and loyalty and conduct and love for brethren are guidelines by which we can evaluate our relationship with Christ.

THE EFFECTS OF ASSURANCE OF OUR SECURITY

The bible teaches that the christian may have the assurance of salvation. But the promise is conditional. That you are Christian who had already saved it is possible to fall, for Bible says,  1 Corinthians 10:12. Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. That is why the scriptures admonish us to " continue in the faith"
Col. 1:23; "to abide in Christ"  John.15:6; to mortify the deeds of the body" Rom.8:13, and to hold the beginning of our confidences steadfast unto the end" Heb 3:14. These are christian duties. But in spite of these warnings,  we fine that God's people in the Bible times did not live in fear of their eternal destiny.

Conclusion

Brethren, when you're in Christ you security is sure.  Always be in Christ, destroy the work if flesh and commit your life totally to God. Are you sure of your safety. Guide your salvation with trembling and fear. Take heed they that stand  lest he fall.
People of God, our security is in our hands, Jesus has play His own part for us to be save, so what are you doing to retain in it.
If you are still sinning Jesus is calling you today to be save.   John 10:9. "I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture."
Let us pray: Almighty God help us oh Lord to be able to lives our life in according to your word.
