THIS SUNDAY SERMON: ADVENT HOPE - DELIVERED ON THE 48TH WEEK IN ADVENT

Theme: Advent Hope

TEXT: "Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the son of man cometh". Matt. 24:44

This Sunday is the commencement of another year in Christian called Advent which carries with it a lot of hope of the second coming of our Lord. In Advent, the Church looks back to the 1st coming of Christ while at the same time looking forward in eager anticipation prepares for His Second Coming. 

From the above text, our Saviour Jesus Christ told His disciples to and all believers. To be prepared for His 2nd coming which will occur at an unexpected and unknown hour - Matt. 24:36,44; Mk. 13:32; 1 Thess. 5:2. As foretold in both the O.T. And N.T. Scriptures, the coming of Christ, the Messiah is coming to reign as king and to judge the world - Isa. 9:2-7; 40:3-5; 61: 1-3. The season of Advent reminds all believers that the only hope we are awaiting is that of the 2nd coming of Christ to rescue us from the coming wrath - Lk2:1-7; 24:50-52.

Beloved in Christ, the Advent is to us a period of serious preparation to meet our Lord and Saviour. As He appears to gather the elects to reign eternally with Him. Prophet Isaiah referred to the coming of Christ as the last days and as well encourage believers to walk in the light of that day not to come to us unprepared - Isa. 2:2; 5. Paul also admonished the Roman's Christians to cast off works of darkness and put on the armor of light, not make provision for the flesh to fulfil it's lust - Rom. 13:12-14.

Beloved in Christ, we can only achieve through our submission to the Lordship of our Saviour, Jesus Christ and through consistent meditations in His words backed up with ceaseless prayers - Josh. 1:8; 1Thess. 5:17. Beloved, it will be painful experience for any child of God to miss Christ at His Coming. They are the people who will be cast into utter darkness with weapons - Matt. 25:30.

May we not miss Christ at His second coming in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen
