50TH WEEK: WORD OF POWER ON 3RD SUNDAY IN ADVENT

 THEME:- THE FORERUNNER
By: THE REVD. PETER B. OLUWATAYO

TEXT: ‘He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Isaiah’  John 1:23

*Forerunners proclaim the coming of the Lord and the events directly related to it.
When we look at the first-century forerunners, it gives us insight into the life and role of forerunners in the end times. John the Baptist and the apostles were first-century forerunners; they went into various cities before Jesus in order to proclaim His coming.
*Jesus sent messengers before His face. And as they went, they entered a village of the Samaritans, to prepare for Him - Luke 9:52. The angel Gabriel alluded to this in Isaiah 40 when he described John the Baptist as a forerunner who would prepare people to receive Jesus at His first coming - Luke 1:11-19.

*It is he who will go as a forerunner before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers back to the children, and the disobedient to the attitude of the righteous; so as to make ready a people prepared for the Lord - Luke 1:17
*The voice of one crying in the wilderness: “Prepare the way of the LORD; make straight in the desert a highway for our God - Isaiah 40:3 John the Baptist was the voice crying in the wilderness to prepare the way of the Lord - John 1:23.
*These passages give us insight into the forerunner’s ministry as that of preparing people by announcing the coming of Christ. John was a prophet who also ministered as an evangelist, calling multitudes to come to Jesus - Mt. 9:14; Lk. 3:3-18; 11:1.

*Isaiah 62 describes forerunners in the generation in which the Lord returns: they will prepare people by building up the highway of the Lord and by lifting a banner message to the ends of the earth that God and give insight into the reward that He will bring with Him - Rev. 22:12.
*Brethren, we need to make ourselves available for the harvest of soul at His coming.
Let us go out enmass to proclaim the Love, righteousness and compassion of our Lord who is the major reason for season to the wicked and sinful world around us - Psalm 145:5-10
Beloved, as stewards of the truth, let us be bold and courageous like John the Baptist, to speak the truth always without the fear or favour of anyone, even to the point of suffering and death. Doing this will we be true forerunner.
