WORD OF POWER FOR THE LAST SUNDAY IN 2017: THE WORD BECAME FLESH

THEME: THE WORD BECAME FLESH
By:
VEN. REMI AFOSI

TEXT: - ‘The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth’ - Joh. 1:14

*The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us’. In the original Greek text, the phrase ‘dwelling among us’ was a reminder to the Jews of the act of God literally pitching His tent and taking residence with them when they left Egypt for Canaan.
*Wherever they went, the tent of God was in their midst.during the day like a pillar of cloud and at night it glowed as a pillar of fire. God lived among his people, giving them water to drink and food to eat. Exo. 13:21-22; 15:24-27.
*Jesus, the Word of God is also 100% God, steps out of heaven takes on the flesh of mankind, and enters our world. With this great step of becoming man, Jesus willingly sets aside His divine rights in order to do the will of His Father - Rev. 21:3; Gal 4:4-5.
*Paul Apostle encourages Christians to live like Christ; ‘Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing ....’ - Phi. 2:5-7
*We can tell from the New Testament that Jesus didn’t suffer from any type of identity crisis. He was very clear on who He was both in heaven and on earth. Literally, He emptied Himself of His divine rights - John 1:1-3.
*If Jesus set aside His divine rights, then we can rightly assume that as His followers we must be willing to give up our rights (whether real or perceived rights). We must be willing to give up our perceived rights.
*To follow Jesus is to experience God at work in and through us. We must be sensitive to the move of God in our lives so that we do not jeopadize our followership of Jesus.

If we are not very careful these rights will create a barrier to our following Jesus.
*If we look through the gospels we see Jesus challenging people who want to follow Him to give up specific “rights” or “blessings.” He asked them to set aside or leave behind, Family, Occupations, Homes, Money, Safety, Security, Comfort
*His challenge was clear. If you decide to follow Him to become a part of His activity in this world, it could cost you everything. What are some of your perceived rights?
What rights or blessings have the potential to hold you back from pursuing Jesus?
NOTHING SHOULD SEPARATE US FROM THE LOVE OF CHRIST.
